It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is run entirely by volunteers. The charity relies on its own fundraising activities to keep providing this valuable service to the feline population of West Oxfordshire. This year has been particularly challenging with so many events cancelled or on hold owing to the pandemic.
Sunshine Cat Rescue’s mission is to reduce the suffering of cats and kittens in need of care and attention. It provides shelter until new homes are found. The charity also works to reduce the number of cats and kittens needing help in the first place.
One of the charity’s key activities is neutering, which is the most effective way of reducing the numbers of unwanted cats and kittens roaming the area. This helps to provide a safer environment for members of the public coming into contact with potentially aggressive or diseased animals. Importantly, it also helps ensure that the animals who do survive have a better quality of life.
How we’re helping Sunshine Cat RescueWe’re pleased to have been able to support Sunshine Cat Rescue with two grants. The first, in April 2015, was for £5,000 and went towards vets’ bills. The second, in June 2019, was for £3,000 and this was used to help cover neutering costs.
“Petplan have been very generous in awarding grants to Sunshine Cat Rescue for use towards paying vets’ bills, which are our major expense,” comments Sharon Carbonero. “As a small local charity, we are always grateful for any financial help that we receive.”
